Melody is a traditional healing practitioner and Hawaii-licensed massage therapist (MAT-18387) based in Hilo, Hawaii. She is also a writer, children’s book author, beetender, and micro-farmer. Rather than think of all of these things as separate parts of her life, Melody considers them to be deeply interwoven elements of her lifestyle: she writes to support the bees, the bees support the micro-farm, the micro-farm grows medicine she uses in her healing practice, and her healing practice nourishes others as well as herself.
Melody completed her massage training and apprenticeship at Hale Lomilomi O Kekaimalino under Kumu Mariko “Kekai” Sato. Kumu Kekai was recognized as a kumu lomi by her late kumu, Dane Kaohelani Silva. Through her training at Hale Lomilomi, Melody discovered her affinity for therapeutic relaxation lomilomi in the style of Kumu Dane, and also gravitated toward aromatherapy lomi as taught to her by Kumu Nancy Kahalewai, deepening the results of her therapeutic practice.
While Melody has provided hilot, traditional Filipino massage and healing, to family since she was called to it as a child under the guidance of her mother and Filipino lineage, she completed her formal training in Oahu with Apu Adman to receive her certified Masters in Ministry on Hilot Binabaylan Practice (M.Min. HBp. HB-04-2026-12-91) on April 2026. During her training with Apu Adman, she learned traditional hilot modalities such as elemental diagnostics, tawas, bentusa (fire cupping), pagsasala (banana leaf scan), dry and wet suob (ritual smoke and steam cleansing), prenatal (pregnancy) massage, postpartum care, infant massage, and much more.
